Superman fans will get to delve more about the superhero's family history in a new television series by Syfy. "Krypton: Superman" already pinned an official release date, set to debut on television in late March this year.

"What if Superman never existed? Set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel's grandfather, who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson," read the series' official synopsis.

First announced in Dec. 2014, the series will be helmed by Cameron Welsh and executive-produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Although it's unlikely that Superman—or Kal-El, as his kin called him, will make an appearance in the series, the show will still be dominated by powerful cast, including Ian McElhinney, who was known for his role as Sir Barristan Selmy on Game of Thrones.

Aside from McElhinney, other cast and characters who'll join him in the Superman prequel series include Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, ancestor of Superman villain General Zod and forbidden lover of Seg-El. Paula Malcolmson will play Charys, the "matriarch of House of El."

Wallis will play Nyssa Vex, a junior magistrate; Rasmus Hardiker will play Kem, Seg-El's best friend; Aaron Pierre (Tennison) is Dev-Em, a cadet under Primus Zod, and Ann Ogbomo will play Alura Zod, Lyta Zod's mother and the highest-ranking officer in Krypton's military.

One of the already known antagonists in the series is Brainiac, who will be played by Blake Ritson. In the comic, Brainiac is one of Superman's biggest enemies, and in the series, more will be revealed about his character and the power he possesses.

Aside from the family politics in Krypton, time travel is also set to play a big part in the series. The prospect is already teased by showrunner Cameron Welsh, as he revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con last summer that an Earth-based time traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) will periodically make an appearance and stir all kinds of trouble.

"Krypton: Superman" will officially release on March 21, 2018.
