'The Last Guardian' rumor: Dev hints at title's appearance at TGS

When the Tokyo Game Show kicks off next week, fans and video game enthusiasts might catch a glimpse of a surprise title from Sony – that of "The Last Guardian."

Developer genDESIGN set fans abuzz when it posted a tweet that says, "We are thinking about how to take Trico to the Makuhari (in a new and different way)." The post also shows a big screen projection of giant, bird-like feet, much like Trico's.

Fans would immediately recognize "The Last Guardian" in the statement since Trico is the giant, bird-dog pet of the main protagonist in the title. Trico was also shown in almost all teaser footages of "The Last Guardian," appearing most recently in this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Meanwhile, Makuhari is the name of the convention center in Chiba Prefecture where this year's Tokyo Game Show will be held.

The 2015 TGS will start next week, on Sept. 17, and will last for two days.

This doesn't confirm that "The Last Guardian" will appear at the event, though. Last week, Sony already released the list of the games that will be included in the company's presentation at the Tokyo Game Show. However, Sony did say that the list is not yet conclusive and more surprise games could make an appearance. In addition, aside from the company's TGS appearance, Sony is also scheduled to hold its own press conference on Sept. 15, two days before the TGS formally kicks off.

"The Last Guardian" is considered to be one of the most-anticipated games to date and already achieved mythical status like that of the fabled "Half Life 3." It was first announced in 2009 and was originally scheduled for a 2011 release for the PS3. However, Sony decided to tweak the game even more and pushed back the release of the title for the PS4 instead, with the roll out to occur next year.
