"The Last of Us 2" was teased by accident back in September last year, but developer Naughty Dog did not give a trailer or any statement regarding the game during this year's E3, to the dismay of many fans. Despite this, a report from Chatt Sports Net points out that the game could be launching by 2018.

According to the report, official news about the game could come around by the end of this year or in early 2017, with a trailer being launched by E3 2017. If this proves true then the game is likely to release for the PS4 by June 2018. The first game launched for the PS3 in June 2013 and later remastered for the PS4 in July 2014.

Naughty Dog has yet to make any official statements regarding the release date of "The Last of Us 2" and it is undetermined if they are indeed working on a true sequel, a spin-off or just another DLC for the first game.

Given that Sony is also launching the more powerful PS4 Neo it is likely that "The Last of Us 2" will have built-in features to take advantage of the more powerful hardware such as faster loading times, smoother rendering, 4K resolution support and a consistent 60 frames per second.

It is said that the sequel will either take place immediately after the ending of the first game or it might take place some time after, with Ellie now as a fully grown adult and Joel no longer involved. The report even points out that Ellie may even be pregnant throughout the course of the game.

The sequel is also speculated to be an even more beautiful and non-linear game compared to the first game given that it will be built for the PS4 from the ground up instead of a remaster of a PS3 title similar to the first game.
