When it comes to games with great story and plot, many gamers would include "The Last of Us" on the list. As such, many fans have been anticipating the much-delayed sequel. Although previous assumptions put the release date sometime in 2018, it seems more delays are about to plague the game, possibly pushing the release date to next year.

The reason why many fans think that it would not be released within 2018 lies in the PlayStation Blog. Back then, when the site opened polls for the Game of the Year awards, "The Last of Us Part 2" was not included in the "Most Anticipated PS4 Title" category. It would seem ironic given that it should at least be part of the possible winners.

In the blog, the company already anticipated that people would wonder why the game is not included, and they gave a vague explanation. "You may notice a slight change to this year's 'Most Anticipated' category: since 'The Last of Us Part II' won the Platinum Trophy in that same category following its announcement last year, it's no longer eligible for a nomination in that category this year," reads the blog posted by social media manager, Justin Massongill.

It seems unfair for fans that despite the game's win in 2016, they never really fulfilled their promise of actually releasing it last year, 2017. Now, since the title was excluded from the 2017 list of most-anticipated games, many believe it will not be released this year either.

That said, others still believe that the game will be out for 2018, and they have accepted the explanation given by Sony. After all, the rules for the awards were not exactly mentioned until this scenario happened, so while some fans may think that it is an excuse used by the company, it may actually be a valid rule.

Fans of the game can only wait for Sony to announce the actual release date of "The Last of Us Part 2."
