'The Last Ship' season 2 spoilers; premiere date June 21

The Last ShipTNT

Season 1 of the post-apocalyptic television drama series "The Last Ship" ended with an explosive cliffhanger. The team has finally created a vaccine and cure for the plague that has wiped out roughly 80 percent of the world population, but Granderson's men have now taken over the ship. Season 2 will start with a bang.

The second season will premiere this June 21 and, as showcased in the season's promotional trailer, TNT and executive producer Michael Bay are going to start things off with even more action and explosions. The crew of the USS Nathan James need to fight back in order to take control of the ship or else, the vaccine and cure might never be used to save humanity.

Granderson's men don't even look the slightest interested in saving mankind from the plague and are instead looking for a place where they might be safe forever and a place where they can establish their own sovereignty.

According to a report from Three If By Space, season 2's premiere episode will show the U.S. Navy sailors fighting back against Granderson, in hopes that they might still have time to give the cure to everyone on shore. However, the trailer also hints that a greater evil is lurking and waiting, that someone from the White House is going to stir up trouble.

The report also points out that living in a world without people is going to become a big aspect of season 2. Just about everyone the main characters know are now dead, including many of their loved ones. This might open doors for some of the ship's crew members to get to know each other more and maybe even get together.

For those who haven't caught season 1 yet, it is available for streaming for Hulu subscribers; while season 2 will premiere on June 21 on the TNT network.
