The loot box controversy that ended 2017 is one that has affected many games and popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game "League of Legends" with its Hextech and Masterwork chests. To keep things transparent with its millions of players, Riot Games has decided to share the details about the loot box drop rates.

Both Hextech and Masterwork chests have two rates: the main drop rates and the bonus drop rates. For the Hextech Chests, players will mostly get Skin Shards since it is what it contains 50 percent of the time. Those who got a Summoner Icon Shard and 150 Orange Essence are the lucky ones with it having only a three-point-five percent chance.

There is a 25 percent chance for a Champion Shard, an 11.5 Ward Skin Shard and 150 Orange Essence and finally a 10 percent chance for a permanent emote. As for the bonus drops and rates, there is a three-point-six percent chance that players get a gemstone and a better ten percent chance for a bonus chest and key.

On the other hand, Masterwork Chests give better chances especially to those who want skins. Players have a 70 percent chance that it would drop a Skin Shard. They can also get 525 Orange Essence, which is quite valuable as well to unlock Skin Shards, Permanent Emotes and a Ward Skin plus 150 Orange Essence all at 10 percent chance each.

As for its bonus rates, it follows the same numbers as the Hextech Chests. There are a lot of other guidelines that Riot has revealed including a "Bad Luck Protection" mechanic. Also, those who are worried about getting champion shards from either chest will be glad to know that it will usually give champions worth more than 4,800BE.

The news of the loot box drop rates was first revealed in Riot's official support page.
