'League of Legends' news: Gangplank set to make his triumphant return

The pirate champion Gangplank is now on his way back to "League of Legends."

Near the end of last week, Gangplank appeared to have been killed off during one of the storyline scenes in the Bilgewater event in "League of Legends."

The pirate champion looked as though he had been killed during Act 3 of the event by none other than Miss Fortune, his arch-nemesis.

After Gangplank's storyline death, "League of Legends" developer Riot Games seemingly wanted to make the event stick by actually making the character himself unavailable in the game, claiming that the pirate champion really was dead.

Needless to say, Gangplank's storyline demise made waves among the "League of Legends" community, as it was the first time a story event actually had any bearing on the game, according to Kotaku.

Although Riot Games mostly stuck to their guns regarding the storyline death of Gangplank, it looks as though many players were right in thinking that the pirate champion's demise is more temporary than permanent.

Riot Games has released an epilogue for the Bilgewater event, and it is revealed there that Gangplank did not die during Miss Fortune's attack, though he is now an arm short.

The new Gangplank now has a mechanical arm in place of his dearly departed appendage, and that is reflected in the game as well, as the new pirate champion model is the one that players will be able to choose.

Even though the new model is now the default one for Gangplank, fans of his can still win back his old character skin, according to PC Gamer. All "League of Legends" players who owned and played Gangplank for a matchmade during the Bilgewater event will receive his original character skin free of charge.

For those who do not have the skin, and still want to earn it, they will have until Aug. 10 to win back the original Gangplank character model.

Gangplank will return to "League of Legends" next week.
