Sony 'selfie' smartphone shown in new leaks

Shortly after the release of the Sony Xperia M4 during the recently-concluded Mobile World Congress early this month, it seems like the Japanese mobile brand is again planning to release another mid-range mobile phone — that is, if the leaked photos of a new device turn out to be true.

Prolific tipster @upleaks posted a series of allegedly live photos of a soon-to-be released Sony Xperia smartphone, which is believed to be the Sony Xperia Cosmos. Based on the photos leaked through Twitter, the upcoming device seems to be the successor of the Xperia C3 product line that was launched last year. The Xperia C3 smartphone is the Japanese mobile brand's first and only smartphone that features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera that has a LED flash.

The leaked images also come with a brief description of the product, saying that it will run with the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. It will also be powered with an undisclosed MediaTek processor.

It the leaked details are accurate, then it means that the Xperia Cosmos will be the third smartphone from Sony that will feature a MediaTek solution, next to the low-end Sony Xperia E4 and the Sony Xperia E4g that will be released soon.

Also, if the alleged Sony Xperia Cosmos is anything like the Xperia C3, then it could come with a 5.5-inch to 6-inch display screen, as well as an 8-megapixel primary rear facing shooter. It might also feature some of the basic specs that could compete with other mid-range phones in the market today.

Still, consumers should expect a slight improvement from the features that came with the Xperia C3, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and the quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7.

There are no further details about the expected release date or actual product name of the alleged Sony Xperia Cosmos at the moment.
