There has been no confirmation if a third installment for "Left 4 Dead" will be released, but fans remain hopeful for the game's continuation. Meanwhile, some reports are already speculating about several possible features that "Left 4 Dead 3" could have.

The first-person shooter zombie apocalypse themed game developed by Valve and Turtle-Rock Studios has been a hit with gamers since its first release of "Left 4 Dead" in 2008. The second installment — "Left 4 Dead 2" —was released a year after, and since then fans have been waiting for the third installment.

A recent post from a Valve employee named Tristan Reidford reignited the hope of "Left 4 Dead" fans that a third series may already be in the works. Reidford's post was a tutorial about how to manage the Destinations platform, which included a photo that showed a folder on his computer with the label "left4dead3."

A lot of followers of the "Left 4 Dead" game took note of the photo. Since then, the said photo has been taken down and now no trace can be found of the "left4dead3" folder.

Although there has been no confirmation of its release date, a lot of possible features of the upcoming "Left 4 Dead 3" have already spread in the gaming community.

According to Digital Spy, it is possible that "Left 4 Dead 3" will be available on several gaming platforms which include the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Since the succeeding game has been taking a long time to be released, reports say that there will be a new set of characters to be introduced. The new characters to survive the zombie apocalypse in "Left 4 Dead 3" are Katherine, a 24-year-old Caucasian female; Irvin, a black gangster; Garrett Jr., a Kenpo fighter; and Keenan, a book nerd.

The storyline of the upcoming third installment will be a prequel to "Left 4 Dead 2," placing the survivors only months after the zombie virus has infected everyone. There will be six featured campaigns – Crashland, Impasse, Inquisitor Land, Early Destination, Cliff Hanger, and No Mercy.

"Left 4 Dead 3" is speculated to be released in 2017.
