'Legends of Tomorrow' update: Hawkman's fate teased by showrunner Phil Klemmer

The CW

Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) fell in the latest episode of "Legends of Tomorrow" and the ramifications of this action will ripple throughout the next few episodes of the series. In an interview with Collider, showrunner Phil Klemmer explained just what this may mean for Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee).

"The truth is that Carter will only be reborn when she dies," he explained, further implying that the latest version of Carter aka Hawkman won't be born until this version of Kendra aka Hawkgirl is also killed by the hands of Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).

"I would also like to find another version of Hawkman out there," he continued to tease. "Once our Kendra has found love within 'Legends,' I would like her to be confronted with another Carter from a previous life, just to test the theory, does free will trump destiny."

Klemmer continued to explain that this may mean that a different version of Hawkman, perhaps from a very different time period, may be encountered later on the show. It is highly unlikely that Hawkgirl will be killed off so soon but this may mean that Carter Hall's next incarnation won't be seen for some time.

The showrunner also teased about the end of the show and how killing Vandal Savage for good may end Hawkgirl and Hawkman's powers. It is implied that when Savage is killed, the curse laid on them will end and they will no longer be able to be reborn again and again, finally allowing them to live as lovers until they grow old and die.

However, Klemmer's statements also indicate that at one point it is possible that Hawkgirl will be killed off before the end of the first season, leading to the possibility of the main cast of characters traveling again in time to either recruit the next reincarnation of the two lovers or to go back to 2016, prior to the beinning of the show, and recruit them again.
