'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2: Showrunner Phil Klemmer discusses plot and crossovers

The CW

"Legends of Tomorrow" season 1 focused solely on Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his band of superheroes in stopping Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) from conquering the world in the future. However, this will not be the focus in season 2 as show runner Phil Klemmer reveals the next season will feel like an entirely new show.

"We're coming at it from a completely different angle. We're determined to make every part of season 2 feel like its own show," he explained in an interview with IGN. "Episode 201 will very much be a new pilot with new good guys, new bad guys, new stakes, new dynamics, new goals. The team will basically have to find a new purpose."

Klemmer also clarified that when he stated "new good guys" it only meant that the characters would have changed in regards to their views and personalities and that it did not mean the cast itself was being altered. However, he did confirm there will be a few new faces such as other DC superheroes that may make cameo appearances.

The showrunner did not confirm if Constantine (Matt Ryan) or Jonah Hex (Johnathon Schaech) would be making appearances in season 2 but did state that other superheroes of the same magnitude are likely to be showing up.

A report from Screen Rant points out that having an entirely new goal and purpose in season 2 will help the show fight against the one issue plaguing season 1: a stale end-goal. Season 1 would always see the team lose because Vandal Savage, being the main enemy, had to be defeated in the finale but not before that.

With season 2's new approach the team would have the liberty of tackling a new threat and visit a new world or timeline with each episode, no longer restricted by the overarching plot of the season.

"Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 will premiere in fall.
