The "Lethal Weapon" film series was one of the biggest hits during the 80's and the 90's. Next year would be two decades since the last movie, "Lethal Weapon 4." Fortunately for fans, director Richard Donner has something to say about a possible fifth installment.

There have been many rumors and talks for the past two decades about a new fifth movie. In fact, Donner himself revealed during a podcast, the Spocklight Star Trek, that although he may not have a script yet, he definitely has a story in mind. According to the director, it has actually been a story that has been on his mind for the longest time now.

"It's a story I came up with Channing Gibson, the writer who wrote '4,' and I'm just having to work it out with the studio," says Donner during the podcast. "If everybody steps up and we all get together, we'll make it. Mel [Gibson] and Danny [Glover] are on board. If it doesn't work out, at least we tried. But there's a good... a better chance that you'll see the movie."

Donner said his wish to make the fifth movie was set in motion one day when he stumbled upon both Gibson and Glover, the actors who play two cops who are the protagonists of the movies. It apparently has reminded him of how the two work really well together. "As of right now, we are inches away from getting the go-ahead signal," said Donner. "We're waiting for the studio to say go."

For those who have not yet seen the movies, "Lethal Weapon" is one of the first duo-cop movies that provided both mystery, action, and of course, comedy. Riggs (Gibson) and Murtaugh (Glover) are two almost completely opposite characters, and it makes the comedy and their business work. Currently, there is a FOX reboot series that is currently in its second season.
