The original stars of the "Lethal Weapon" might make a comeback. Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and director Richard Donner might give the film franchise one more shot with "Lethal Weapon 5."

According to Deadline, Gibson, Glover and Donner are considering doing another sequel. In this scenario, Donner would have directorial duties while Channing Gibson, who wrote the script for the fourth installment, will be coming back as well. While a lot of factors have to be considered for the film to take shape, it seems that all major players are on board with the plan.

While this is exciting news for the fans of the film franchise, Warner Bros. is reportedly more focused on launching a reboot of the franchise as opposed to making a fifth installment.

Back in 2011, it was reported that Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver were looking into rebooting the franchise. At the time, screenwriter Will Beall worked on the film "Gangster Squad" was tasked with writing.

It was said that Beall's written material would have the same rated-R tone as the first "Lethal Weapon" film and it would also follow the premise too.

Warner Bros. has not officially announced what they plan to do with the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, given the recent revelation of Gibson, Glover and Donner's renewed interest.

"Lethal Weapon" was released in 1987 and was followed by three sequels. All four movies have earned a combined total of $955.2 million worldwide. The last movie was shown in 1998 with a television series adaptation released in 2016.

"Lethal Weapon" follows the story of a homicide cop from the LAPD (Glover) who partners with a cop from the narcotics squad (Gibson). In the beginning, the two clash with their very different ideals of how to implement law enforcement but eventually, they come to rely on one another for their lives as time passed by.
