LG G4C: LG G4's smaller variant releasing on May 12?

Twitter

After announcing its flagship smartphone G4, LG has set it eyes on the lesser performing mobile markets with a smaller variant of its high-end offering called G4C. While the company has not publicly released a statement concerning the release of G4C, the handset was spotted at a Dutch retailer website named Central Point, where it is available in the following colors:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • White

The model name of G4C is H52N and apart from its price tag of $330 coupled with the fact that it is being rumored to launch on May 12, 2015, no other information is currently available. Since the upcoming handset will perform less in contrast to G4, it can be speculated that the chipset running inside G4C will be slower than Snapdragon 808 present inside G4.

While the following has not been confirmed, G4C could feature a Snapdragon 805, since the 'system on a chip' is already two generations old, and much slower than Qualcomm's 810 and 808. When G4 was released sporting Snapdragon 808, it caused confusion amongst critics and fans as to why the South Korean tech firm would resort to incorporating a hexa-core processor in its smartphone.

LG intended on releasing a high-end device while placing features that will cater to the user's needs appropriately. Since Snapdragon 810 has been known to overheat (thanks to its Cortex-A57 processor and lithographic process), the chipset is unable to maintain its speed for prolonged periods due to thermal throttling, a process which reduces a processor's clock speed to reduce temperature, prolong battery life and prevent irreparable damage to the device.

With Snapdragon 808, there will only be a small fraction of performance loss, but the advantages will include:

  • Sustaining performance over longer periods
  • Additional battery life
  • Less overheating

It is expected that LG will be maintaining the same approach for its G4C, assuming the handset gets launched on its rumored release date.
