LG G5 release date, specs news: dual-cam setup, secondary screen

LG

Previous rumors have said that the LG G5 will feature a number of new improvements, including a new camera assembly and a secondary screen. Recent supposed sightings have reportedly confirmed these two features for the upcoming LG premium flagship.

Recent tweets by noted tipster Evan Blass said that the rumors of LG G5's specs are true. According to GSM Arena, Blass has seen a consumer model of the upcoming G5, and true to previous speculations, the upcoming smartphone has a secondary screen and a dual-lens camera setup.

The industry follower said that Blass did not delve deeper into the LG G5's secondary screen, only confirming that it exists. The report mentioned that popular opinions place this secondary display to be similar to the LG V10, where a secondary ticker display is placed on the top panel of the main screen. However, the report also stated that LG may have changed this feature for the G5, since an image of the "always on" feature of the device teased by LG recently showed that the ticker itself is on the center of the display.

Meanwhile, Blass also reportedly confirmed that the new G5 will have a dual-lens camera setup. According to Phone Arena, the dual-cam setup will allow for fancier tricks in capturing images. Since the assembly has two camera lenses, fans may also expect each camera to have its own sensor. This means that images captured with the LG G5 will be sharper, since the dual-cam setup will make image focus more flexible. In addition, the dual-cam setup paired with a good camera firmware will make for better manipulation features, such as shifting focus, image stabilization, and smoother zoom.

Fans who are eagerly anticipating the G5 will not have to wait that long as LG confirms that the handset will be unveiled on Feb. 21 to kick off the Mobile World Congress.
