LG G5 specs rumor: Handset to feature hardware expansion option?

Fans are already expecting that LG will release a follow-up in the successful G series this year. However, the South Korea-based company still has to come out with details on the much-anticipated LG G5. Meanwhile, speculations about the upcoming flagship continue to float online.

In the latest rumors, it is said that the LG G5 will be released featuring a hardware expansion option.

According to Venture Beat, one of the rumored features of the LG G5 is a "Magic Slot." Apparently, this feature will allow LG G5 owners to add modules to the unit. It will be a special connectivity slot that will let users add special features to their devices, for example, an additional camera with filter module, a specialized videocam, audio amplifier and/or third-party speakers, or a physical keyboard.

While it is unclear how LG plans to integrate this feature on the G5, the industry follower likened it to a Springboard expansion slot on the Handspring Visor PDAs.

Meanwhile, aside from the rumored "Magic Slot," there are also different speculations on other features of the upcoming LG G5 lineup.

According to Android Central, another innovation that LG might feature on the upcoming flagship is a dual display option, placing a ticker on top of the main screen. If this is true, this will not be the first time that LG will integrate such a feature as it has already done it with the recently released V10 flagship. The ticker itself works as a notification center for the device, displaying feedback and instant details like Samsung's Edge display on some of its flagship devices.

TechTimes reported that as a premium flagship, the LG G5 will sport the new Snapdragon 820 processor, partnered with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, which is expected to be expandable as well (like its predecessor, the G4).
