It is already expected that LG will follow-up its current-generation flagship, the G5, with another series iteration. Speculations suggest that the already-expected LG G6 will come out with a next-generation feature, an iris scanner.

While the feature is not a novel one — Samsung has already come out with an iris scanner for its discontinued Galaxy Note 7 flagship — LG is reportedly coming out with a twist on its own module. According to GSM Arena, the LG G6 may feature an "all-in-one" setup, where the camera and the iris scanner are built as one module. Ostensibly, LG's hardware arm, LG Inotek, is already developing the component.

However, the South Korea-based conglomerate reached out to the industry follower to clarify that while the module is in the works, it is still unclear if a dual iris scanner-camera setup will make it as a feature in the upcoming LG G6.

The rumor for the new component also surfaced with another speculation for the G6. Reportedly, LG has given up on its modular accessories lineup, as the Friends lineup is allegedly going to be shelved. Should it turn out to be true, it means that unlike the G5, the upcoming follow-up will likely retain a more traditional body design, without the current generation's hardpoints at the back for the add-ons.

When LG launched the G5, it underscored the modular design of the flagship and launched a separate Friends lineup for modular add-ons like stereo speakers, extra battery modules, and a camera accessory.

Meanwhile, LG has yet to come out with confirmed details for its next flagship, although it is expected that it will carry next-generation features and a number of upgraded specs. TechRadar surmises, though, that the tech maker is likely to debut the LG G6 early next year, as early as April. This timeline has been LG's schedule in releasing its latest G-series flagship.
