It has been rumored that LG is holding off the release of the G7 smartphone this year, citing that the company's flagship G series will undergo a total repackaging. This led people to believe that the handset will not be launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, although LG recently rebutted these speculations. In their latest statement, the South Korean tech firm claims that the launch of the LG G6 successor this year is "right on schedule."

In spite of the recent reports that LG's next flagship smartphone will be delayed, the LG G7 launch might happen sooner than anyone thought. In fact, the initial prediction that the G7 will be showcased at the MWC 2018 next month might be true after all.

"The successor to the G6 is on schedule, and the official name will be announced when the time is right. Until then, reports of a decision being made on the timing and name are all speculative." an LG spokesperson said in a statement sent to Android Central. To recall, the LG has been reportedly starting the G series from scratch, and with this, the LG G7 release might be postponed for some months.

Another sound rumor is that the next handset in the G series will not be named as the G7, with LG probably giving the device a two-digit numbering similar to the V series. The rumors suggest that the company does not want the public to think that the LG G7 is an outdated model compared to Apple and Samsung's current flagships, which are now on the numbers 8 and 10, respectively. Samsung also pulled the same trick for the same reason, naming its 2016 premium phablet the Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6.

Still, there is uncertainty if LG will be present at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona this February to showcase the G7 smartphone. Samsung has already confirmed the launch of its Galaxy S9 flagship at the MWC, while LG hs yet to send the invitation for the anticipated LG G7 unveiling.

There are no confirmed hardware specs and features of the LG G7 yet, although the latest leak from the Chinese social networking site Weibo suggests that the smartphone will be among the first few 2018 flagships to receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. With the upgrade from the Snapdragon 835 processor, the users can expect an impressive boost in speed and performance of the LG G7, as well as enhanced power saving.
