The LG V10 and LG V20 both came with a small, second display at the top. This secondary display served as a shortcut for apps, notifications, and other small features. New rumors now suggest that the upcoming LG V30 will be replacing this secondary screen for something else.

The rumors first started when industry insider Evan Blass went on Twitter stating "I will say this: adieu, ticker."

Fans immediately speculated that this statement meant the LG V30 would ditch the secondary display. However, Blass commented on this and tried to clarify what he meant. In a follow-up post, he stated "Language is just so important. Found it interesting that many publications mistranslated this as "ditching the secondary display."

According to the IBTimes, it is possible that this means the secondary display will still be present on the LG V30, but it will no longer function as a notifications ticker. This is because the Android OS already has numerous means of addressing notifications, and the display could be altered or improved for better functions.

It is possible that the secondary display may still serve as an app shortcut or its functions could alter according to the app currently in use. If the latter proves true then it may resemble the OLED touch panel seen on the most recent iteration of the MacBook Pro,

The report also states that one of the main issues with the secondary display on the V10 and V20 was the frequency of accidental taps and swipes. A new function on the V30 may address this problem.

No official price or release date has yet been announced for the LG V30 but it is expected to release by Fall 2017. With a long schedule ahead of its launch, it is expected that more details regarding the secondary display will surface in the months to come.
