The release of the alleged LG Windows phone could be sooner than later as the device was reported to be in testing stage in LG's home court in Korea.

A number of mobile OEM manufacturers like HTC, Samsung, Nokia, Dell, and LG released Windows-based phones in the past. However, Microsoft's partners significantly reduced after it rolled out the Windows Phone 8 OS. Part of the reason why some third company backed off from making Windows-based smartphones is due to the unpopularity of Windows OS compared to iOS and Android. Moreover, it was the height of the Android OS.

HTC re-entered the market with the Windows phone of the HTC One M8 after a two-year hiatus. Now, there are reports that LG is joining the league of Windows-based smartphones. Slash Gear pointed out that a recent study from AdDuplex on Windows Phone OEMs contained data from LG hinting that Microsoft and LG may have talks about a Windows-based smartphone. AdDuplex releases this report on Windows Phone OEMs every month. The report added that two new devices are bound for release soon.

A mid-range Windows smartphone, LG LGVW820, was allegedly spotted in Korea with 4.7-inch screen display with 480×854 pixel resolution. The details of the smartphone are still unknown, but more information is expected to surface soon if the smartphone are already on its testing phase. The specs and features will most likely be lower than the current flagship smartphone of the company.

Offering a Windows-based smartphone is an advantage for mobile OEM manufacturers since it still caters to a segment of the market. Moreover, it provides consumers more options to choose from.

Meanwhile, LG is also rumored working on two other smartphones – LG G4 and LG G Flex 2. These smartphones are bound for release next year, although LG has not revealed its roadmap yet for the aforementioned devices.
