'Beverly Hills, 90210' TV movie to be made by Lifetime
Lifetime is planning an unauthorized "Beverly Hills, 90210" film for television.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is planning a TV movie which will document the behind-the-scenes drama of the hit 90's show's first four seasons. The film will also reportedly follow the many times that the series got cancelled.
The main cast of the show was made up of Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, Luke Perry, Jason Priestly, and Ian Ziering.
The show ran for 10 seasons from 1990 to 2000. Its ratings started off strong and increased to up to 31.7 million viewers in the fourth season. Doherty left the show after season 4 due to rumored tensions behind the scenes, and her widely documented feuds with her co-stars is speculated to be one of the highlights that will be featured on the Lifetime special.
Although there were a lot of interesting plotlines on the show, it was the drama that occurred on set when the cameras stopped rolling that the cast would often talk about in recent interviews. For instance, back in May 2014, Priestly told Access Hollywood that people on the show would date each other at the time.
"There were multiple engagements on the show, with multiple people. Nobody ever got attached," he said.
Doherty, Priestly, Garth, and Spelling have all written about their experiences on the show, and in Priestly's book titled "Jason Jason: A Memoir," the actor wrote about an experience that he had while working with Doherty. In an interview with Sirius FM's "Just Jenny" in January, Doherty made some harsh comments about what Priestly wrote about her, saying that his memory about their time on the show might have been altered.
"I love Jason, but you know he had a car accident, a racing accident, and I think maybe parts of his memory got altered from that," Doherty said. "Everybody changes …They have their own perception of the truth. His is definitely different than mine."
An airdate has yet to be revealed by Lifetime for the "Beverly Hills, 90210" TV movie.
