Waiting for a delayed flight at Gatwick Airport in London will no longer have to put travelers in a disappointing situation, now that it serves food that promotes happiness.

The London airport aims to make travelling a more pleasant experience for travelers, especially during flight delays. The remedy can be found in the airport restaurants' meals spiked with mood-enhancing hormones.

Gatwick has worked together with Jo Travers, a nutritionist based in London, to conduct an experiment for one month involving the "happy meals," CNN reported.

Travers is helping airport restaurants come up with special meals that contain ingredients that influence good mood.

The restaurants have changed their menus and now include dishes that will surely improve the mood of travelers.

According to the report, Frankie and Benny's have joined in and will start serving "salmon citrus salad" believed to improve brain functions.

Lebanese restaurant Comptoir also added a "falafel and fattoush salad" that can regulate blood sugar levels.

Serotonin and dopamine are two neurotransmitters popular for its role in influencing happiness and good mood.

Travers said that she prefers meals that contain mood boosters as low levels of serotonin and dopamine can cause fatigue and induce mood swings.

"Happiness is a complex thing," she said, according to Munchies, "but there are certain foods that will help the 'happy' chemicals in your brain to keep flowing."

The team-up between Gatwick and Travers is supported by Airline Trends founder Raymond Kollau, who believes that the importance of nutrition is increasingly acknowledged.

Traveling, though a pleasant experience, can also be stressful because one has to deal with long lines, making sure to get to the terminal on time, packing up stuff and the possibility that there could be bumps along the way.

As a result, passengers could get irritable and uneasy at times. However, airports are on a mission to maintain positivity among travelers and promoting nutrition is one of the methods to fulfill that such goal.

Travers said that she only hopes that travelers will get to their destinations in a happy state.
