'Longmire' season 4 spoilers: Walt hunts his wife's killer in new trailer

Longmire season 4 Netflix

"Longmire" season 4 is less than three weeks away from its premiere, making the release of its trailer very timely. Netflix recently released a preview for the upcoming season, which gives waiting fans more mysteries to mull over until the show returns.

The clip shows Walt aiming his gun at an airplane in an attempt to gun down a certain passenger. But as he goes about it, someone unknown pounces on him.

Last season, the show left Walt hell-bent on revenge upon finding out who is responsible for his wife's death. Season 4 will pick up directly from that and will see the protagonist becoming more and more blinded by vendetta and the pain brought by the terrible loss.

Meanwhile, Branch Connally, who was sacked by Walt for being erratic and violent, also previously gained knowledge on Walt's wife's killer. This brings into play another mystery waiting to be cleared up, as Branch's confrontation with who he believes is the culprit ended with a gunshot. The series, however, did not show who pulled the trigger and who took a bullet. The upcoming season will finally reveal what really went down.

On the other hand, executive producer Greer Shepard told Deadline in an interview that the upcoming season is "about second chances."

"Who you are as a person is defined by how you handle the second chance. Netflix has incorporated that theme in their campaign," he said. "There are a lot of ways in which people can rebuild themselves after devastating experiences. We explore that theme throughout each of our characters. Now that Walt knows the murderer of his wife, how does he go on? With Henry, he has a new-found freedom, what does he do with it?"

"Longmire" season 4 will premiere on Netflix on Sept. 10.
