'Longmire' season 5 rumored crossover with 'Criminal Minds' unlikely to happen

With "Longmire" officially adopted by Netflix and a fifth season in the works, there is a high possibility that the new season won't just focus on the adventures of Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) but it also may feature a special crossover with "Criminal Minds," according to a report from Day Herald.

"Criminal Minds" focuses on a batch of FBI agents in the Behavioral Analysis Unit or BAU. Instead of working case to case they focus on catching certain criminals based on criminal profiling. Instead of focusing entirely on the case these agents use their profiling abilities to focus entirely on the criminal responsible.

It is this nature of the show that makes it viable for a crossover with "Longmire." As stated in a report from Cartermatt, "Longmire" is primarily set in a lone town in Wyoming and "Criminal Minds" is the only investigative show that has the potential to visit such a location without breaking either show's internal logic or plots.

However, there is one issue with this potential crossover. According to the report, the one big wrench that could throw this crossover off course is the fact that the two shows are not on the same network. "Criminal Minds" is a series on CBS, a network television broadcaster, while "Longmire" has since been adopted on Netflix.

Not only are the two shows on different networks but they are also produced by two different production companies. There is also the issue of the two shows being radically different from each other. It is pointed out that the only real similarity between them is that they feature violent antagonists and characters working for the law.

"Criminal Minds" runs like most investigative shows like "CSI" and "Bones" while "Longmire" is a procedural drama despite focusing on law enforcement characters.

"Longmire" is expected to return on Netflix in 2016.
