"Longmire" season 5 is about to enter production. Via Twitter, actor Lou Diamond Phillips, who plays Henry, said production will begin this month, which indicates that Netflix and the production studios are aiming to release season 5 by this September.

The series began on A&E but was later cancelled following the third season due to a drop in viewership ratings and other similar programs filling in the role that "Longmire" covered for the network. The series was then picked up by Netflix, allowing the show to carry on for a fourth and now fifth season.

According to Vine Report, Phillips's announcement would mirror the same schedule that the series followed for season 4. Season 4 also began production in March last year and was later launched on Netflix by September. It is likely that this very same pattern will be repeated for season 5.

The first three seasons all premiered in summer, with season 1 and season 3 launching in June while season 2 premiered in late May.

Of course there is always the possibility of the show being delayed or even released early. Given that Netflix has not made any official announcements yet, the tentative release date is only based on the production and release of the previous season and there are a number of factors that could lead to an early or delayed premiere.

Netflix may prioritize their other original series such as "Orange Is the New Black" and "Daredevil," although with the way Netflix releases all of a season's episodes in one day, there is less likelihood of another show affecting the release of "Longmire" season 5.

At the time being very little is indicated regarding season 5's plot. As previously reported, there are hints that the next season may see Walt (Robert Taylor) not pursuing a romantic relationship with Donna (Aly Walker) and instead getting intimate with Vic (Katee Sackhoff), given that this was a major relationship in the original novel series.
