After being cancelled on the A&E network, "Longmire" resumed with a fourth season on Netflix. After much speculation of a fifth season renewal, Netflix has officially announced via Facebook that "Longmire" is indeed moving forward with season 5.

"We've never been one to back down from a fight. Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5," reads the announcement.

However, no further details have been revealed. At this point there is no cast list and no writer or list of directors that will work on the upcoming season. Given the nature of the series, however, it is likely that many of the main cast such as Robert Taylor, Lou Diamond Phillips, Katee Sackhoff and newcomer Ally Walker will be reprising their roles.

Season 4 ended with Henry (Phillips) handcuffed and drive off while Walt (Taylor) and Donna (Walker) were sharing an intimate moment at home when a stranger suddenly burst inside.

According to a report from Screen Rant, the shift to Netflix has allowed the series to take a much darker tone. This may be a result to the fact that the series no longer has to be restricted by cable TV regulations. It is speculated that this will allow Walter to face off against his invader in a very gruesome and violent manner.

Despite this expected dark turn of events, it is also stated that Henry's resolution will be less violent in comparison. Henry may instead find some other means of breaking out and reaching safety without the need of murdering someone in the process. Walt may not have this option as he is already standing toe to toe with a home invader.

This is, of course, if the invader is indeed going to try and harm either Walt or Donna. The report points out that Walt has made many enemies on the show and it is likely that the invader is one such enemy.

"Longmire" season 5 will premiere next year with another 10 episodes.
