Rumors are swirling that Netflix's crime drama "Longmire" will bid its final farewell to its loyal fanbase after the show's fifth season.

However, despite persistent rumors that the show will be canceled, it seems that it is more likely that the series will get picked up for another season, FX News reported.

It can be recalled that this was not the first time the show was faced with a similar dilemma as it has earlier been dropped by A&E because it did not live up to the rating expectations for the network's target demographic, reported Game n' Guide .

It was picked up Netflix for its fourth and now its fifth run, and now "Longmire" has been picking up more viewers with each season as the show's plot grows steadily more complicated for the show's main characters.

Still, there have been questions about whether the increase in the series' fanbase will be enough to keep the show afloat. Aside from positive fan reviews, the show has also been getting good reviews from critics.

Nancy DeWolf Smith of the Wall Street Journal actually tagged the series as "...the best of two worlds: a modern crime drama with dry with and sometimes heart-wrenching emotion that's also got a glorious setting under the big sky of Wyoming, If it weren't for a few modern conveniences, like cellphones and trucks, it might as well be 1875, so rugged and unspoilt does the scenery look."

Another ray of hope for the show is a hint dropped by series regular Lou Diamond Phillips — who portrays Henry Standing Bear on the show — on his Twitter. His post showed the cast as they wrapped up production for season 5.

"It is a beautiful (final) day at the Red Pony and continual soirée...until next season! Big thanks #nmfilm #Longmire," he said.

Without any official statements from Netflix, however, speculations about a sixth season will remain unconfirmed.
