Barry Sloane will be reprising his role as Zachary "Zach" Heflin, Walt Longmire's (Robert Taylor) deputy, on "Longmire."

The news was first revealed by Adam Bartley, who plays Jim "the Ferg" Ferguson. In a Twitter post, he shared a photo of him and Sloane, with "You never know who might turn up in Absaroka County. So great seeing my buddy @BarrySloane Can't finish this thing without him #Longmire" as the caption.

The two shared a close friendship on- and off-screen prior to Sloane's exit. On the show, Zach was fired by Walt at the end of season 4 for his poor handling of the issue with Monte (Stephen Louis Grush), who was also competing for a deputy position in the sheriff's office.

While none of the cast and crew has revealed what Zach's return in Absaroka County means to the other characters, Cartermatt said that it would be nice to see what his character has been doing since leaving town. The website also stated that it might be fun to see if Zach will be brought into a case that the sheriff's office will be handling while he is there.

Sloane will not be the only character returning for the sixth and final season of "Longmire." The Christian Post reports that Peter Stormare, who currently plays Czernobog on "American Gods," will be reprising his role as Chance Gilbert. His return has also been confirmed via Twitter, this time by Katee Sackhoff, who plays homicide detective Victoria "Vic" Moretti in the series.

No word has been given yet on how many episodes Sloane will be appearing on "Longmire." He is part of the cast of A+E Network's "SIX," which has been renewed for a second season.

Meanwhile, Tony Tost, a writer for "Longmire," also wrote the pilot of the upcoming show "Damnation," which is set in the 1930s, featuring Killian Scott.
