LA Clippers trade rumors 2016: Blake Griffin to be swapped before deadline?

The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly looking to trade Blake Griffin ahead of this week's deadline.

Rumors even suggest that the Clippers have actually tried to trade Griffin already.

In an appearance on the "Mike and Mike Show," ESPN's Chris Broussard reported that the Clippers have proposed a trade involving Griffin to the Denver Nuggets.

According to Broussard, the deal would involve Griffin and Clippers guard Lance Stephenson going to Denver in exchange for forwards Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried along with swingman Will Barton and center Nikola Jokic.

The rumored deal has thus far not been completed, and the reason for that is, apparently, because the Nuggets have turned down the offer.

Broussard also said that Clippers' coach Doc Rivers has denied that the team has offered Griffin as part of a trade.

Still, rumors about a Griffin trade have been making the rounds for a while now, and even if the Nuggets may not want him for the Clippers' asking price, or if his current team suggests publicly that they are not moving him, that does not necessarily mean he will stay put.

According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, there are other teams beyond the Nuggets that could be in play for Griffin, including potential playoff teams such as the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks. The New York Knicks have even been mentioned as a potential Griffin landing spot, although Carmelo Anthony may have to be involved in any kind of potential swap.

Should the Los Angeles Clippers push through with trading Griffin before the deadline, they will likely have more than a few suitors waiting to negotiate. Griffin is regarded as one of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) most talented forwards and he could be a potential franchise cornerstone for many teams.

With just a few days remaining before the trading deadline, the situation between Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers will likely be cleared up soon and fans will be tuning in to see if the talented big man remains on the team or is on his way elsewhere.
