Los Angeles Lakers 2015 rumors: Steve Nash to join coaching staff?

Steve NashWikipedia

Steve Nash was forced to retire from basketball but as a player. Hence, he may not be totally out of it since he could be a good addition to the Lakers (or any team for that matter) as a coach.

This is not to say the Nash can follow the footsteps of former Laker guards currently acting as head coaches in the league. Among the former Laker guards currently holding coaching positions are Derek Fisher of the New York Knicks and of course Byron Scott of the Los Angeles Lakers.

So why not Steve Nash?

It has always been believed that the point guard is the coach on the hardwood. Nash, filled with experience through his playing years is no different. In fact, being a former two-time Most Valuable Player, Nash is sure to be filled with ideas that younger players can benefit from.

In fact before officially retiring, Nash had been doing some mentoring on the Laker guards such as Jordan Clarkson. And we have all seen the impact Clarkson gave despite the Lakers failing to make the playoffs.

Nash could be a head coach some day. But for starters, he could embark on that though by being included in the coaching staff of the Lakers. If not the Lakers maybe for some other teams like the Phoenix Suns, the team which had originally drafted him in the 1996 NBA draft.

There have been a lot of other NBA guards who had stellar careers and made the transition of coaching. There is Jason Kidd (Milwaukee Bucks) and Steve Kerr (Golden State Warriors). Though it remains to be seen if Nash will be as successful, the fact is he won't know until he tries.

The Lakers would do well to look into that possibility. With respect to Byron Scott, Nash has been doing it before so why not do it full time?

Nash does miss the game, but there are other ways to enjoy it without necessarily having to be playing on the basketball court. Don't be surprised to see the former two-time most valuable player joining the coaching staff of the Lakers (or any other team) soon.
