LA Lakers trade rumors 2016: Greg Monroe could be a deadline acquisition

The Los Angeles Lakers may be looking to make a big move at the trading deadline, and it may involve the acquisition of Milwaukee Bucks center Greg Monroe.

It's no secret that the Lakers' season has been a disappointment thus far, and while it may be too late for the team to be a contender this year, they could still be right back in prime position to consistently compete for a championship after making a few moves.

Obviously, any move up the standings for the Lakers would necessitate the development of their young players, but they may also be able to speed up that process by bringing over some new names from other teams.

Monroe by himself may not be the secret to turning the Los Angeles Lakers into a contender, although he is a young big man who could be the team's center for foreseeable future.

Monroe is currently having a solid season for a mostly disappointing Milwaukee squad, making him a possible trade target for other National Basketball Association (NBA) teams. The center is not without his drawbacks, however, and as The Inquisitr noted, his defense has left a lot to be desired.

Still, Monroe being added to a core of Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, and D'Angelo Russell is still better than the Lakers' current situation, and if he can be had at the trading deadline, then the purple and gold-clad squad may very well be one of his pursuers.

Adding a center alone does not guarantee the Lakers success, however, and further improvement may involve a more dramatic shake-up.

In pursuit of that, the Los Angeles Lakers may want to look into the possibility of adding a new coach.

One possible coaching candidate for the Lakers is former player Luke Walton. Walton impressed earlier this year during his brief stint at the helm of the Golden State Warriors.

Walton guided the Warriors to an impressive 39–4 mark over the first half of the season, immediately putting his name out there as a hot commodity for NBA teams with coaching vacancies.

Right now, the team still has a head coach in Byron Scott and he is reportedly expected to stay with the team until the end of the season.

After the season, though, it's anyone's guess as to whether or not the Lakers will retain Scott, thus opening the door for a possible Walton hire.

That could constitute perfect timing for both sides as well, as ESPN's Marc Stein also posted on Twitter that according to sources, Walton is not listening to head coaching offers until the end of the season.

What's clear is that the Los Angeles Lakers need to improve, and whether it's bringing in a new player in Monroe or a new coach in Walton, the team needs to ensure that they make the right decisions.
