Lucille Ball's iconic polka-dot dress, which she wore for the popular "I Love Lucy" television series, has sold for $168,000 at an auction on July 30.

The winning bid for the iconic dress was sold at the Profiles in History Auction for up to three times the estimate given by experts, which expected it to sell between $40,000 to $60,000.

The hit "I Love Lucy" comedy sitcom ran from 1951 to 1957. The show starred Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley.

"I Love Lucy" was the most watched show in the United States for the first four series. The show can still be seen on reruns today. It is listed as Time magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME" in 2007 and ranked second in 2002 as TV Guide's list of television's greatest shows.

The show centers around housewife Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) with her husband Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz), and best friends/landlords Fred (William Frawley) and Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance).

Ball won the Best Actress Primetime Emmy award in 1956.

Other pieces of memorabilia from the comedy series were auctioned off at the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in Jamestown, New York, this weekend.

Other items sold at the Profiles in History auction were props from The Sopranos, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, and Indian Jones & The Temple of Doom.

A collection of costumes worn by Julie Andrew's for her role in The Sound of Music sold for $1.3 million.

Judy Garland's Wizard of Oz dress also sold for $360,000, exceeding the estimate price which was estimated at only half the amount.
