Microsoft Lumia 940 specs rumors: Microsoft phone to feature metal chassis

The Lumia 930. It is said that Microsoft will be releasing its successor before the year ends.

Microsoft has recently announced that it would be releasing a Windows 10 Mobile smartphone before the year ends. This confirmation prompted observers to speculate that the upcoming Microsoft handset could be the successor to the Lumia 930, released last year. In addition to the upcoming Lumia 940, Microsoft is also reported to be making an end run by releasing multiple flagships this year, also adding a larger Lumia 940 XL.

Meanwhile, a recent report suggests that the new Lumia 940 may be sporting a metal body. According to a tweet from Lumia fan Ricciolo, the upcoming Lumia handset will be a top-of-the-line, premium smartphone that is slim, strong, and fast. The phrases "Windows 10" and "hot autumn" were also mentioned, which could be an indication that the Lumia 940 may come out of the box with a full version Windows 10 Mobile and will be unveiled by September.

The reported September target launch for the new Lumia may have some truth to it, since the annual IFA in Berlin, one of the most-anticipated tech events, will occur on that month.

Aside from having a metal body, the new Lumia is speculated to sport a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with full 1080p resolution. Under the hood, it will be powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The new Lumia will also come with a 25 MP PureView main camera with powerful LED flash partnered with a 5 MP front shooter.

Meanwhile, although most currently available Lumia phones sport the Windows Mobile platform, there is still no definite schedule on when the mobile version of the new Windows 10 OS will roll out. Microsoft has stated earlier that the release of its new operating system will be on a staggered basis, with the desktop and laptop/ hybrid editions coming out first starting July 29 and the mobile version to follow.
