MacBook Air 2016 release date, specs: Apple still planning to release iteration with USB Type-C?

One of the alleged features of Macbook Air and Macbook Pro 2016 editions is the Type-C USB portApple

Previous rumors have said that Apple is planning to replace its MacBook Air lineup. However, new speculations suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant is instead improving its upcoming Air 2016 edition, featuring new specs and details such as USB Type-C connectivity.

According to DigiTimes, while a USB Type-C port is a slimmer version, making possible slimmer and thinner body designs, the new port is slow to catch on for laptop and notebook makers since there may be heat dissipation problems, as well as the chip needing more power than a conventional USB port.

However, it seems that Apple has already found a way to incorporate USB Type-C into its new designs, and will showcase a slimmer and lighter MacBook Air because of this. Reportedly, Apple has already decided to adapt the USB Type-C interface to its upcoming laptop lineups, which may include the 2016 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

Previously, there are rumors that Apple will discontinue the MacBook Air lineup, and will streamline its laptop series. Allegedly, the Air's lightness and slim profile features will be taken over by the new MacBooks, and the top-tier and performance-focused options will be the lineup of the new MacBook Pro.

As to when fans can expect the new MacBook Air, there are speculations that Apple may decide to introduce the new laptop lineups later this year. Previously, it was thought of that the Cupertino-based company would introduce new products at the annual WWDC conference but no hardware announcements were made. Meanwhile, Apple is still expected to come out with new reveals towards the end of the year, possibly by September. Aside from the new MacBook Air and Pro, fans also expect to see the new iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2, and may even include the rumored iPad Air 3.
