The last official MacBook Air model was launched in early 2015, and as stated by Ecumenical News, it was met with negative to average reviews and poor sales. Due to this, there are rumors that the MacBook Air 2016 is being cancelled in favor of the more powerful MacBook Pro.

According to the report, Apple is known for announcing and launching new products every September and it is possible that the new MacBook Pro will be unveiled during the event as well, along with a new iPhone and iPad model. If the MacBook Air still exists then Apple will make an announcement during the event as well.

Tech Radar reports that the MacBook Air, if it is indeed launching, should be releasing within this month of August or in September alongside the other Apple products. However, Apple has yet to give any indication that the laptop is even in production and that it will launch in time.

It is further stated in the report that the MacBook Air 2016 is unlikely going to feature a Retina display but it will at least have the latest iteration of the Intel SkyLake processor. This will update its specs well enough to make it a step above the previous MacBook Air model. 

An update on the report also claims that the MacBook Air may also feature a USB Type-C port and that Apple is moving to have all of their products feature this type of port in order to be more efficient, faster and to be less expensive.

Given that the MacBook Air has been touted as one of the thinnest and lightest laptops in the market it is also reported that the MacBook Air 2016 will be ultra-thin and is going to be the thinnest product that Apple has to offer, particularly in comparison to the larger MacBook Pro.
