Apple may have already released an upgraded version of its 12-inch MacBook from last year, but a lot of enthusiasts are still on the lookout for the MacBook Pro 2016, which is expected to show up next month.

According to latest reports, Apple is saving the long-rumored new iteration of the MacBook Pro for the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, in June.

Users will remember that the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2015 unit was unveiled March last year while the 15-inch version was launched in May.

Taking into account this release timing, Apple could be gearing up for an imminent reveal of the MacBook Pro 2016 this month or the next. The discounts on the current MacBook units also seem to point on the release of a new one.

As for the specs of the MacBook Pro 2016, the laptop is expected to be powered by Intel Skylake, the latest and most powerful processor available from the company.

This chipset opens up a lot of exciting possibilities for Apple to tinker with in the new MacBook Pro. Its low power consumption should eliminate the need for a map, making device lighter and therefore thinner.

Skylake also promises increased speed and performance, making the MacBook Pro 2016 more efficient. The processor should also help prolong the battery life of the device.

The notebook is also believed to sport a USB Type-C port, which is becoming the standard for smartphone and laptops. The next-gen MacBook Pro may even be the first to don the OS X.

It won't also be a surprise to see visual and graphics improvements on the MacBook Pro 2016. The device is expected to get its very own Butterfly key switch mechanism like the one on its predecessor.

Despite all these grand upgrades, Apple is expected to keep the sleek look of the device, albeit slimmer. Whether or not this will come to fruition, fans can expect to get answers as early as next month during the WWDC, on June 13 to 17.
