MacBook Pro 2016 release date rumors: if it's not cancelled, it may come in August

The current iteration of the MacBook Pro Apple

According to a report from Tech Radar, the MacBook Pro 2016 is expected to come out any time soon given that the lineup has not seen a proper update since 2014. It has a potential launch date ranging from this coming August to late October, depending if Apple launches the laptop alongside its flagship devices like the iPhone 7 and 7s.

If the laptop does see a release before the end of the year, it is rumored to come with 5k resolution support with a brand-new display type that has yet to be fully tested with other Apple products. It is also rumored to come with USB Type-C support and with an advanced fingerprint scanner or other new security measure.

However, rumors also suggest that the MacBook Pro is being cancelled as Apple may be replacing it with the iPad Pro. These rumors are based on a statement that Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, made last year when he declared the iPad Pro as a true successor to the laptop lineup.

"Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones," the CEO explained in an interview with the Telegraph in November last year.

It is noted that Cook's statements may mean Apple is no longer going to be releasing the MacBook Pro but this does not necessarily mean the company will stop producing the MacBook Air and the normal Mac desktop computers. However, the iPad Pro could be the reason why the MacBook Pro may be cancelled.

Apple has yet to make an official statement regarding the MacBook Pro and fans speculate that official news will be released when the company holds their event in September, the time they are expected to release the final build of iOS 10 and the next iteration of iPads and iPhones.
