Many Mac followers are hoping for a major hardware refresh in this year's MacBook Pro update. Apple has been notably focusing on its iPhone and iPad lineups for the past several years, thus making its pro-level workstation computers left behind. Fortunately, there are reports suggesting that the MacBook Pro 2018, specifically the 13-inch laptop variant, will feature a big performance boost as the computer shifts from Kaby Lake to Coffee Lake processor.

According to the latest scoop regarding the MacBook Pro, the next-gen 13-inch Mac Pro laptop is likely to make the jump to Coffee Lake processors, which is currently the latest generation of computer processor from Intel. There is a wide range of possibility as the 13-inch MacBook Pro is packed with the Coffee Lake chip, including faster performance and improved battery power efficiency. Most of all, many users are looking forward to see how the new MacBook Pro will be enhanced as the Coffee Lake processor uses four cores instead of the usual two.

It is anticipated that the Intel Coffee Lake chips will be notably faster than the Kaby Lake, especially in cases that the MacBook Pro 2018 does not require the use of all four processor cores. Moreover, the latest Coffee Lake technology was based on more advanced chip manufacturing design.

To recall, Apple released a new version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro in 2017, which highlighted the use of then-latest Intel Kaby Lake processor. The public was delighted that the Cupertino-based tech giant made some sort of improvement for the Mac Pro, which had long used the years-old Skylake chips. If there is one downside of the Kaby Lake variant, the processor still uses dual cores, although these perform at higher speeds compared to Skylake processor cores.

In contrast with this report, DigiTimes claims that Apple will make some changes in getting MacBook Pro orders coming from its two manufacturers, Quanta and Foxconn. In an effort to bring down the costs and risks in the production of 2018 Mac Pro laptops, the company has decided to distribute more orders from Quanta to Foxconn. The implication of this move is that there might be no major hardware update expected in the new Mac Pro.
