The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro release date is speculated to come soon as current models of Apple laptops are being sold at discounted prices.

U.S. electronics retailer Best Buy is holding an ongoing MacBook special that allows buyers to purchase the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Air, which comes with 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor mated to 4 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, for $849 instead of its original price of $999. $150 knocked off the price is a very good deal. Open box units — which are models used for display — are also available for $798.99.

Meanwhile, the entry-level MacBook Pro released in 2012 that comes with 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive can be bought for $949, down from its original price of $1,099. Meanwhile, the retailer also offers open-box and refurbished units, which cost $901.99 and $929.99, respectively.

Many are speculating that the discounted price of MacBooks is an indication that new models are about to be released.  A lot of waiting Apple fans were actually disappointed when the supposed upgraded versions of the MacBook Air and Pro went missing in action last Oct. 16 at the company's press event. One of the speculated reasons why the tech giant did not release the new MacBooks is to prevent the devices from cannibalizing other Apple products set to be launched on the same date, namely the iPad line, Mac Mini and iMac.

Moreover, it seems that Apple is waiting for the launch of Intel's Broadwell processors. It was initially thought that the new chipset will be released in fall, but Intel reportedly claimed that the chips will arrive to devices early next year. Now, rumors are saying that the release date for the updated notebooks has been pushed back to early 2015.

However, the Cupertino-based company has not confirmed whether or not it will release the new laptops early next year.
