Macbook Pro and Air 2016 release date rumors: Ultra-thin laptops to arrive in 2nd half of 2016?

New Macbook units with ultra-thin builds will allegedly be released later in the year, according to a new report. Deemed the long-rumored Macbook Pro and Air 2016, these Apple notebooks will come with a new design.

Apple is allegedly looking to release the new Macbook units during the second half of the year. Digitimes says that there is an ongoing cutthroat competition among manufacturers hoping to supply the components of the Macbooks.

Digitimes adds that Apple will be designing the Macbook Pro and Air 2016 with ultra-thin builds. This will be done with what it referred to as metal injection molding-made (MIM) hinges, which US-based manufacturing company Amphenol will provide.

The manufacturer also happens to be Microsoft's hinge supplier for Surface Pro, which also comes with a unique hinge. With Amphenol's partnership with Apple, it appears that the Cupertino-based company is determined to make Macbook Pro and Air 2016 look good.

While it sounds like something Apple will do, it is recommended to take this report with a pinch of salt especially with Digitimes possessing a hit-and-miss record when it comes to Apple predictions. Apple Insider notes that it "frequently" gets it wrong.

Nevertheless, it would still make sense for Apple to come up with ultra-thin Macbook Pro and Air 2016. The iPhone architect likes to make its products thinner but more powerful just like the iPhone clan and it looks like it will be the same for the Macbook lines.

If Digitimes has it right though, the rumored release of the Macbook Pro and Air 2016 either on June or July becomes unlikely. However, it is believed that Apple will still make the laptops official in the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

It is important to note that trusted KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Macbook Pro and Air 2016 will see the light of day during the aforementioned month. If the so-called ultra-thin Macbook is a different notebook altogether, it might be Apple's laptop offering in the second half of the year.
