There are quite a few people who are nothing short of obsessed with AMC's Mad Men and if you are one of them, then you may be delighted to know that the hit show will be split into two parts for the Season 7 Finale.  

That means an expansion of the Matthew Weiner drama into 14 episodes, with the premiere of the first set of seven shows due in spring 2014.  

The last seven episodes will then air in spring 2015.  It seems like a long wait but one that fans will probably feel is worth it to see a little more of Don Draper.

From what AMC president Charlie Collier has to say about it, it seems that the move is a deliberate strategy to maximise viewer figures.

"This approach has worked well for many programmes across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with Breaking Bad which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second half premiere than had watched any previous episode.

"We are determined to bring Mad Men a similar showcase. In an era where high-end content is savored and analyzed, and catch-up time is used well to drive back to live events, we believe this is the best way to release the now 14 episodes that remain of this iconic series."

Well, all good things must come to an end and the title for the finale reminds us that although it can be stretched out, it can't be stretched out forever.

While the first half of the finale is called "The Beginning", the spring 2015 set will run under the title "The End of an Era".  

Will it get the kind of bumper ratings that Breaking Bad when it split?  Probably.
