After the controversial and shocking exit of Bebe Neuwirth, who plays Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord's (Tea Leoni) chief of staff Nadine Tolliver in the political drama series "Madam Secretary," fans were left to imagine what would become of the show.

To be more specific, "Madam Secretary" season 4 episode 4 had gotten fewer spoilers after news broke out that Neuwirth would be leaving the CBS show. The trailer for the next episode, which was titled "Shutdown," did not give a hint as to how Elizabeth will choose another chief of staff. But with the title itself, fans could expect the next episode to be about the impending problems that the secretary needed to face.

Elizabeth must think of a way to solve the problem in the Syrian camp. The crisis was starting to get out of hand, as the electricity and water problems were left unresolved. Along with this, Elizabeth must face the challenge of looking for another chief of staff.

"Madam Secretary" season 4 episode 3, titled "Essentials," had Roman (Ethan Peck) announcing to Nadine that she would be a grandma. Because Roman and his girlfriend would be having a baby soon, the former requested the chief of staff to live within the vicinity. Later on, the chief of staff decided not to return to the stressful work and join her family instead. "I love public service, but it's gotten so vicious," Nadine told the secretary.

Neuwirth made the announcement on Sunday, Oct. 22, through Twitter, which had surprised fans as her character was a mainstay from the first season of "Madam Secretary."

"So grateful for my time @MadamSecretary--a wonderful show where I love the cast, crew, background artists. #lifelongfriends," she said and added that she was thankful to the company for giving her exit a nice story. Her costar, Eric Bergen who plays Blake Moran, expressed his farewell message on the microblogging site as well.

"Madam Secretary" season 4 episode 4 will air on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
