More problems will pile up on Elizabeth McCord's plate in the remaining episodes of "Madam Secretary" season 1.

When the series returned for its 12th episode, viewers witnessed McCord (Tea Leoni) planning to have a quaint and romantic 25th wedding anniversary celebration with her husband Henry (Tim Daly). Unfortunately, it got disrupted with issues at home and at work. This means that the U.S. Secretary of State is back to her usual grind following the show's winter hiatus.

In the recently aired episode titled "Standoff," McCord had to fix the problems that arose when she arranged an extradition deal involving a member of a Mexican drug cartel named Carlos Ochoa.  Ochoa killed a Texas state trooper in the middle of her planned vacation with her husband. But it seems as if the work intrusion was just a little bump in their much-anticipated anniversary getaway, because the problems with their oldest daughter Stevie's (Wallis Currie-Wood) education and their son Jason's (Evan Roe) minor accident under the watch of her personal assistant Blake (Erich Bergen) added to their dampened spirits.

But in the upcoming episode of Barbara Hall's new American political drama series, McCord faces more difficulties as a wife, a mother, as well as the newly promoted U.S. Secretary of State. The plot for "Madam Secretary" episode 13 reads:

"Elizabeth pushes for the prosecution of a Bahraini diplomat after he is caught holding a maid hostage in his home. Also, Henry's father comes to visit."

It could mean that the upcoming episode will feature McCord once again taking care of the country's political situation as well as her ordeals in the home front. The episode features Emmy Award winner Tom Skerritt as Henry's father Patrick McCord, along with actor Aasif Mandvi as Prince Yousif.

"Madam Secretary" episode 13 airs Sunday, Jan. 11, on CBS.
