Fans of "Madam Secretary" know how determined Elizabeth McCord gets when she wants to have things done. But an American ambassador will get on the U.S. Secretary of State's bad side in the 12th episode of season 2.

In the episode titled "The Middle Way," Elizabeth will go out of the country to sign an important trade agreement only to be delayed by the U.S. government's representative.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

"Elizabeth goes to Myanmar to sign a Pacific Rim trade agreement which will modernize their power grid and benefit several of its trading partners, but she is met with resistance by the country's American ambassador who has immersed himself into the local culture. Also, Nadine attempts to mend her relationship with her estranged son."

The political drama earned a lot of following because of its timely discussion of current events as well as its relevant portrayal of typical family drama.

In an interview with CBS News, actor Tim Daly talked about what makes "Madam Secretary" appealing to the audience.

"It portrays a marriage that's actually working and it's dynamic, but this couple's committed to figuring out how to do it and they have problems that I think make it very relatable for people," the actor, who plays the role of Elizabeth's husband Henry, explained.

"You know, like kids who are in trouble in various ways and moving and all this busy life and their job, so I think there's something there for everybody, including political junkies."

He also stated that his character on the show is currently challenging the long-standing tradition of portrayal of men on U.S. TV. "A lot of men come up to me and say, 'Thank God you play someone competent, thank God you're someone who can be left with the children in the house and the whole thing doesn't burn down,'" Daly said.

"Madam Secretary" season 2 episode 12 airs on Sunday, Jan. 17, on CBS.
