Things will get personal for the US Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) when the second half of "Madam Secretary" season 2 premieres in January.

Series creator Barbara Hall and executive producer Lori McCreary spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the second part of the season and the two revealed that it will focus on Elizabeth's personal life.

"We're going to take Elizabeth into a more personal story, a more family-related story," Hall said. "And we're going to do some stand-alone episodes that are about individual countries that she gets into conflict with."

Several guest stars will also join the series to help shed light on Elizabeth's life outside the White House.

According to Hill, "Grey's Anatomy" star Kate Burton will appear in the second half of the show to portray the role of Elizabeth's sister-in-law.

"She's part of the story that takes us into a little bit of the Henry (Tim Daly) and Elizabeth origin story, how they got together, and how that affected their relationship with each other and their families," Hall said. "You'll get to see the relationship with Elizabeth and Henry's sister."

Daly's daughter, Emelyn Daly, will also have a guest starring role in "Madam Secretary" season 2B. She will be one of Henry's relatives.

Meanwhile, both Hall and McCreary also revealed that the upcoming midseason premiere of "Madam Secretary" season 2 will be a big episode for Dmitri (Chris Petrovski). Hall teased that fans of the show will know exactly what happened to him during the first part of the season, while the McCreary said that the character will continue to cause a conflict between Elizabeth and Henry.

"Madam Secretary" season 2 episode 11 titled "Unity Node" will air on Jan. 10 on CBS.
