It has been more than half a decade since 2K Games released a brand new installment in the popular "Mafia" video game franchise. Now, the company — along with the game's developer, Hangar 13 — is set to release the series' third main installment, titled "Mafia 3," as well as an accompanying mobile video game version called "Mafia 3: Rivals."

The games were officially unveiled to the public at the recently held 2016 Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany last month. During the presentation, the companies also revealed a number of gameplay trailers that showed off some of the exciting gameplay elements, epic 60's music, and locations that will be included in the titles.

The game itself will be set in a fictional recreation of New Orleans in a city called New Bordeaux. Players will control Lincoln Clay, an orphan and Vietnam War veteran who is hell bent on building a new organized crime empire to go against the existing Italian mob within the city. Players will be able to get the help of up to 40 crime bosses within the game to achieve their ultimate goal.

As for the accompanying mobile game, reports have revealed that it will basically be the same as its console counterpart, but with an entirely different gameplay perspective. "Mafia 3: Rivals" will be reportedly be set in the same location, contain the same characters and the same events. The mobile version, however, will be played in a role-playing game (RPG) style, while the full-fledged console version is a traditional third-person shooter.

"Mafia 3" and "Mafia 3: Rivals" are both set to be released on Oct. 7. The full version of the game will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for Windows PC. The mobile version, on the other hand, will be available for both iOS and Android.
