Fritz Howard (Jon Tenney) and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Special Operations Bureau will return in the upcoming episode of TNT's police procedural series "Major Crimes."

In "Targets of Opportunity," Cartermatt reports that the tough deputy chief will team up once again with the squad of Major Crimes Division in solving a high-stakes case involving a fugitive witness. Two officers were killed in a shooting and the combined forces need to find the sole witness to crack the case. Meanwhile, TV Guide reports that viewers will also see Rusty (Graham Patrick Martin) secretly gather more background information for his own investigation regarding the Alice case, while working with the team in a different project.

Last episode, Raydor (Mary McDonnell) and her team discovered a pile of bones and after some digging, they found out that it belonged to a rapist named Tate Harrison and that he had been missing for about a year. A rape victim was summoned and after looking at his picture, she confirmed that it was indeed Tate who molested her.

After talking to Tate's bother, John, they got another lead. Apparently, Tate had been sober for 90 days and had kept a list of people he wanted to ask forgiveness from, including a woman named Mallory. When Provenza (G.W. Bailey) and Sykes (Kearran Giovanni) paid her a visit, Mallory was not home, but her husband was. The squad was showing him Tate's picture when their little daughter suddenly exclaimed that the man was her mother's friend.

The two detectives then demanded to see the husband's guns. Apparently, he owned four, one being the same caliber as the one that killed Tate. Mallory's husband told them they need a warrant for that, and they left. In the back yard, they discovered a baseball bat, another item they found earlier with the bones. This prompted them to go back in the house. This time, they were able to look into his gun collection and discovered that the .22 caliber was missing.

When they brought in Mallory and her husband for questioning, Mallory admitted that Tate came by to her house once to apologize for something he had done in the past. As it turned out, she was one of his rape victims years ago. But when he saw Mallory's son Tim, he could not help but think that the boy was his. To prove his hunch, he took the boy's baseball glove to swab it for DNA and the result was conclusive.

Tate then demanded visitation and parental rights to Tim, but Mallory was afraid about what would happen once her husband knew that Tim was not his. The lawyer then told Mallory to stop and challenged Raydor if they had any solid evidence against her clients. Since they have none, they were forced to let her go.
