DC producer Charles Roven has some bad news for Superman fans: Henry Cavill's next solo adventure as the Man of Steel is still far from a certainty.

Speaking to The New York Times about the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and its future, Roven revealed that there has been little progress in the development of "Man of Steel 2." Although there have been various ideas pitched here and there, the script has not been written yet. In short, the Superman sequel is not a priority at the moment and "is not coming anytime soon, if at all."

The lack of development to the second installment comes a bit of a surprise considering "Man of Steel" was the film that started the DCEU. Plus, there have been some updates last year regarding the sequel.

A report emerged in August 2016 that Warner Bros. had put the "Man of Steel" sequel into active development. This was confirmed weeks after by Cavill's agent Dany Garcia. According to CBR, the studio has even started negotiations with "Kingsman: The Secret Service" director Matthew Vaughn to helm the sequel. He confirmed this himself this past September.

Warner Bros. has reserved release dates in 2018, 2019 and 2020 for undisclosed movies, any one of which was once speculated to be for the Superman sequel. However, with Roven's recent statement, that is now unlikely.

Regardless of its release date, fans can still watch Cavill in action as Superman in the upcoming "Justice League." The 34-year-old actor teased this week that the movie will reveal the "true Superman: The Superman who is confident, and sure, and full of hope and joy."

Also starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Raymond Fisher as Cyborg, "Justice League" opens in cinemas on Friday, Nov. 17.
