Manchester City will face Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday night in what is surely a must win game for City if they stand any real chance of progressing to the knock out stages this season. With Juventus and Sevilla in Group D alongside Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach are surely a team that City will be eying to take six points from in their group stage games.

City lost their opening home game in this season's Champions League competition to Juventus a few weeks back, and that makes it even more essential that they win today. A second loss here would immediately leave City with a mountain to climb and with visits to Italy and Spain to come against Juventus and Sevilla, not many would fancy their chances of progressing from zero points from two games.

City captain Vincent Company will be missing today's game in a massive blow for the team, but he is also just one of six players out for an injury ravaged City side.

Kompany is out with a calf injury, and joins an injury list that includes defender Gael Clichy, midfielders Fabian Delph, Eliaquim Mangala and Samir Nasri and forward Wilfried Bony.

The German side also suffered a loss in their opening Champions League game against Sevilla, but have looked on the up. After losing their opening six Bundesliga games this season they have now won their last two games and are looking a more confident side in recent weeks.

That is the opposite of this City team, which started the season in excellent fashion, gaining a series of wins to open up their English Premier League season. However, things have since derailed badly, and they have recently suffered a Champions League loss to Juventus as well as two Premier League losses out of their last three domestic games.

City defender Nicolas Otamendi has said ahead of today's game:  "I've always said that Champions League games are special; you have to give respect to your rival and it doesn't matter that they are not in their best moment. We were very unlucky to lose against Juventus because we were controlling the game but still didn't win - that can sometimes happen in football - but you must keep going and try to win the next game."
