Liverpool have a great chance at gaining important ground in the Premier League title race. Chelsea slipped up badly on Saturday, suffering a loss to Aston Villa. That means Chelsea are now 7 points ahead of Liverpool at the top, but Liverpool have 2 games in hand, including today's game against United.

If Liverpool can win today they will move to within 4 points of Chelsea and still have one game in hand.

In team news, United defender Rafael is available after suffering a slight knock on the angle last week against West Brom. Nani will also be available after recovering from a hamstring injury. Jonny Evans and Javier Hernandez should also be available and could feature today.

Meanwhile for Liverpool, Mamadou Sakho and Lucas could feature after both recovering from injuries. However, defender Jose Enrique remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Liverpool will be desperate to win today to remain in the title race. However, United will be as desperate to gain the win as they are currently lagging behind in 7th spot in the EPL table and look likely to miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time in 20 years.

They might easily feel that the team they play today – Liverpool are the team they are most likely to be able to catch in the top 4, so this will be doubly important for them.

If United can win today then they would move to 51 points – still a massive 8 points behind Liverpool, who are on 59 points, with 9 games to go. If United lose that could be the end of the Champions League hopes for next season – they would be 14 points behind Liverpool.
